I had a person recently tell me that "the freedom to practice your own religion doesn't mean that religion gets the right to tell the government not to do something that is in the best interest of the people just because it conflicts with their views."

I responded by saying (with an oh heck no!) that "Our forefathers created this part of the first amendment so that the government doesn't (wouldn't and shouldn't) have the ability to tell a religion what they should and should not do... even if they disagree, a religious institution should have the right to act on their religious beliefs (look at the Amish for an example). "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"... emphasis on the latter."

If this is allowed then what's next is the realm of religious freedom? I'm afraid to know..........

"Think about this: the pro-abortion side has always cried for Christians to “keep your rosaries off my ovaries”, yet they want Churches and religious organizations to fund their sex lives. Do you see the irony in this?"

YES YES YES!! This is so ridiculously true!

Wouldn't this type of violation pave the way for no religious exceptions for things even like required vaccinations? In PA we can opt out of the vaccinations required for school for " (b) Religious exemption.
Thank you all for your efforts. I believe all members of the church who believe and follow goverment policies such as these should be excommunicated and let's start with Nancy Pelosi. Catholics need to stand together and send a strong message to all politicians that we will not stand for government intruding upon our constitutional liberties and freedoms. God bless America.

Grateful for your efforts. We must stand strong on this and I cannot follow how we allowed such a provision to be passed in the first place. As our local pastor stated last weekend, it is time for Catholics to get HOT and not be the leukwarm Catholics of the past. Why are we not ralling – all churches on the same day to express our convictions and dismay with government. I find the so-called compromise a rouse and totally unacceptable. Before we know it, the government will mandate the church to provide same-sex marriages or they will loose their non-profit status. This is so scary.

I'm not Catholic, myself, but I *did* attend a Catholic elementary school from first through sixth grade. And, at 33 years of age, those are *still* some of the most memorable years of my life. Ironically, I was raised by two *very* Liberal parents. Anyhow, since becoming Conservative in 1998, I've actually become *more* liberated, in that I was able to have the following thought on this whole thing: If Catholic institutions *haven't* provided these pharmaceuticals/services since the *beginning*, how could they possibly be taking them *away* from women *now*??? Additionally, you'd *have* to have an I.Q. in the single digits, if you go to work for a Catholic institution, thinking they *would* provide such things, no offense. *ahem, raised eyebrow* Oh, and I've got news for Liberals, Catholic institutions aren't the *only* religious institutions against such things, something *I* actually know from experience. I used to work at a Protestant Christian school (Assembly of God), and *they* don't provide those things, either. Speaking of which, not *only* did I need to produce my birth certificate, Social Security card AND state issued I.D. to work there, I *also* had to pass a background check AND drug test, AND be fingerprinted by the Sheriff's Department! So, in *my* opinion, it is *more than perfectly* acceptable to require an I.D. to vote, and a drug test to receive welfare benefits. Ugh. Just sayin'...
